英語講師がおすすめする英語初心者の学習方法（英語編）

Today, I would like to write about "How to learn English for Beginners."
For beginner English learners, learning methods can have a significant impact on their motivation and results.
Today, as an English teacher, I would like to introduce some “effective and positive learning methods for beginners” based on evidence and my experience in the field of education.
I personally recommend these 5 learning steps for English beginners.

1) 【Start by listening】
Listening is a good foundation for listening and pronunciation.
When learning a language, human beings acquire it in the order of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, so let's start with listening.
Recommended learning methods are...
・Listen to simple English audio (e.g. NHK Radio English, YouTube's English for Children, etc.) for 5-10 minutes every day
・Pronunciation practice is recommended by “shadowing” (listening to English sentences and practicing imitation with a slight delay)

2) 【Learning Basic Words & Phrases】
To enjoy conversation, you must know basic words and phrases.
First, let's learn words and phrases that can be used in daily conversation.
In addition, it is more important to learn “usable words” (with priority given to vocabulary that is used frequently) than “words you know”.
As for actual learning methods...
・Use materials such as "word books" and "English conversation phrase books" that you think you can study by yourself
・Checking words (10 words at a time) every day with word cards or apps is also effective
・Memorize in patterns such as “I want to 〜” and “Can I 〜?”.

3) 【Grammar Study】
After learning basic words and phrases, it is also important to understand the sequence of sentences (grammar).
Start by reviewing basic junior high school English.
If you understand English grammar, you will be able to understand “why we say that” and be able to apply it, so let's study from simple English grammar.
The way to learn...
・Use the English materials you will study in junior high school and study regularly
・Do not try to memorize grammar perfectly, but understand it as you use it

4) 【Get used to speaking aloud】
It is important in English conversation to get used to actually speaking English, not just learning it in your head (brain).
By actually speaking, your memory retention rate will increase significantly.
In fact...
・Speak out even one phrase every day
・Talk to yourself in English (write a diary and say it in English, or try expressing something in front of you in English)
・Have regular opportunities to speak at English conversation classes, etc.

5) 【Devise ways to continue learning English】
Since learning a language takes time, maintaining motivation is essential.
"Continuation" is the biggest key to English language acquisition.
To do so, for example...
・Keep a study record (try writing down your daily progress in an app or notebook)
・Set small goals (e.g., learn 10 phrases in a week)
・Use your favorite English phrasebooks and movies for fun

1. Be aware of the cycle of “learning vocabulary, phrases, and grammar → listening → imitating → using” (memorization alone is not fun, so it is also important to devise ways to make learning fun)
2. Don't seek perfection, even little by little, and continue every day (continuity is key)
3. Find a style that is fun and suits you (the key is to find a learning method that suits you and is not overwhelming)
