Today, I would like
to write about how to finish the reading section of the TOEIC exam.
Completing the TOEIC
reading section in time is a major challenge for many test takers.
In fact, we often
hear from English Plus students that they have trouble finishing all the questions.
So today, we have
compiled a list of effective strategies and practices to help you finish the TOEIC (Reading) test in time.
1. set a target
time for each Part
Part 5: about 10
minutes (30 Questions)
Part 6: about 10
minutes (16 Questions)
Part 7: about 55
minutes (54 Questions)
2. Develop skills
to process Part 5 and 6 quickly
・Grammar or
Vocabulary questions should ideally be within 20 seconds per question
・Immediate decision
making through pattern recognition (e.g. vocabulary questions, tense, parts of speech)
・Train grasp of
sentence structure (quickly recognize subject, verb, object)
3. Time-saving
techniques for Part 7
・Practice skimming
and scanning
・Practice “not
reading everything carefully” is important
・Training to find
specific information quickly
・Don't focus too much
on one sentence, skip sentences you don't understand
4. Devising the
order of questions in Part 7
・Solve Single Passage
first
・Try “Triple Passage”
last with time in mind
・Start with
relatively short passages or advertisement or email format is also effective
5. Practice and
develop the habit of time management
Make it a habit to
time and solve mock exams as you would in a real test
Other tips to
maintain motivation:
・Record “the number
of questions solved in time” little by little each time to realize your progress
・Even if you are not
good at Part 7, you can recover by creating a scoring source in Parts 5 and 6, so be conscious of “getting a balanced score rather than a perfect score” in the real exam

golden rule for completing the reading on time:
1. Set a time limit for each part and observe it
2. Don't focus on difficult questions, but look at the whole picture and proceed
3. Get used to time management by repeatedly practicing in the real test format
